Pakistan to host Geneva ceremony for signing US-Iran peace deal on June 19

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced that Pakistan would host the historic signing ceremony of the US-Iran peace agreement in Geneva on June 19, terming the deal a “monumental milestone” for global peace and a “triumph” of peace and dialogue over the devastation of war, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

“Today the world has witnessed that the pursuit of peace has achieved a great victory and the flames of war have begun to subside. This is a historic moment that historians will record in golden letters,” the prime minister said, addressing the National Assembly, hours after he and President Donald Trump announced that the deal between the United States and Iran had been reached.

Describing the moment as a divine blessing after three months and 16 days of immense trials, he said, “Following the dark night of war, the sun of peace has finally risen.”

Peace deal to be signed in Switzerland: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that a peace deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran had been reached and the official signing ceremony would be held on June 19 in Switzerland.

In a post uploaded on his X timeline in the wee hours of Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said “Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland.” 

Shehbaz Sharif thanked the US and Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict, besides appreciating the mediation effort and the leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement.

The prime minister also thanked the “visionary” leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard.

He said that with the agreement now in place, mediators would facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony, he added.

Pakistan has played a proactive and constructive role in supporting mediation efforts and backchannel diplomacy to promote peace and de-escalation in the region.

Pakistani leadership, including Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, remained actively engaged with all concerned parties, advocating for dialogue and a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

It is pertinent to mention that a ceasefire was also agreed upon and later extended on Pakistan’s request as part of the diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions.

World leaders and the international community have appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts towards regional peace and stability. Several prominent figures have lauded Islamabad’s consistent and responsible contributions in fostering an environment conducive to such important diplomatic breakthroughs.

President welcomes peace deal

President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the peace deal reached between the US and Iran with the help of Pakistan’s mediation.

In a statement on Monday, President Zardari said “I welcome the announcement of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, which will hopefully pave the way for a final agreement and lay the foundation for durable and comprehensive peace in the region.”

“Pakistan is proud to have consistently supported dialogue and diplomacy during this difficult period. This development is also an important step towards strengthening multilateralism and the peaceful resolution of disputes through engagement and mutual respect, he said and added, “May these efforts usher in greater peace, stability and prosperity for the region and the world.”

Dar extends warm welcome

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, who was actively involved in the mediation efforts, said “Pakistan warmly welcomes the understanding reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. This significant breakthrough reflects the power of sustained diplomatic engagement and the collective resolve of friendly nations to choose dialogue over confrontation.

“It also sends a reassuring message to the international community and provides much-needed confidence and stability to global markets and the world economy, particularly for developing countries that are most vulnerable to regional instability.

“Throughout this period, Pakistan remained actively engaged with all concerned parties and consistently advocated restraint and constructive engagement, maintaining that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable means for the resolution of all issues.

“We appreciate the trust reposed in Pakistan by the leadership of both the United States and Iran and commend their commitment to remaining engaged in pursuit of a peaceful and negotiated outcome.
