A drive-in cinema is soon returning to a parking lot near residents. Years after the Dubai’s trusty Rex Drive-in Cinema rolled up its screen, theatre juggernaut Vox Cinemas is opening up a new drive-in venue at Mall of the Emirates, Dubai on May 17.
With social distancing mandatory in the United Arab Emirates to help curb the spread of the virus, VOX Cinemas says audiences on the open-air venue, which opens on Sunday and can hold up to 75 cars at a time, will be limited to two per ride.
Tickets will be priced at Dh180 per car, with a maximum of two people and will include F&B as well.
The city had been abuzz ever since the first images of the set-up dropped online. But Vox Cinemas itself finally confirmed and rolled out its teaser across social media platforms this week in a tweet that simply stated: “Grease your wheels... A new cinematic experience is coming to Mall of the Emirates. Stay tuned.”

The drive-in concept by Vox Cinemas comes as people are being encouraged to maintain social distancing to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus that has affected global economies, curbed travel and paralysed the entertainment industry.
