Morocco set world record with 16 consecutive international wins
Morocco etched their name in football history by setting a new world record of 16 consecutive international victories, following a 1–0 win over Congo in their FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier on other day.
A first-half goal from Fenerbahçe forward Youssef En-Nesyri proved decisive for the Atlas Lions, who had already secured qualification for next year’s World Cup after a commanding 5–0 triumph over Niger earlier this month.
Celebrating the historic milestone, the Moroccan national team posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account:
“Record-breaking. Our National Team makes HISTORY with 16 CONSECUTIVE WINS.”
The post added a simple yet fitting phrase — “Unstoppable Lions.”

Morocco, who made global headlines as the first African nation to reach a FIFA World Cup semi-final in 2022, have now become the first team from Africa to qualify for the 2026 edition to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Their remarkable winning streak began on June 7, 2024, and surpasses the previous joint record of 15 consecutive victories held by Spain, whose run spanned from their Euro 2008 triumph to June 2009.
Before Spain, France held the record with a similar streak between March 2003 and February 2004, during their reign as European champions.
With this latest achievement, Morocco’s Atlas Lions have not only reaffirmed their dominance in African football but also cemented their status as one of the most formidable forces on the global stage.
