Cop, guarding polio team in Jacobabad, injured in firing
A policeman, providing security to a polio team administering drops to children, was seriously injured after unidentified assailants opened fire at him near Katta Shakh Stop in the jurisdiction of Dil Murad police station in Jacobabad on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Dost Muhammad Khoso was immediately rushed to a hospital.
Police said that as per initial information, the attackers belonged to Banglani Gang, while sources said that a few days ago, there was an armed clash between members of Banglani and Khoso tribes.
Police, on the other hand, were of the view that miscreants wanted to disrupt the anti-polio campaign.
The Force said that raids were being conducted for the arrest of the suspects, who managed to flee from the spot, adding that those taking the law into their own hands would not be spared.
Attacks on polio teams are not a new phenomenon in Pakistan as some fanatics target them, considering it their religious duty.
At least one policeman was killed and another wounded in two separate attacks on polio vaccination teams in Pakistan on Wednesday, police said.
The attacks follow the killing of another police officer on Monday on the first day of the polio vaccination drive in the country.
Wednesday's attack took place in Dera Murad Jamali.
