Pakistan, Qatar support de-escalation efforts ensuring regional security

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who arrived in Doha Thursday, held a warm and cordial meeting with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During their meeting held at the Amiri Diwan that lasted over an hour, both leaders discussed the latest regional and international developments, particularly in the Middle East.

At the outset, His Highness the Amir welcomed the Prime Minister of Pakistan and his delegation, and expressed his deep appreciation for Pakistan’s pivotal role in supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and promote diplomatic dialogue in a manner that serves regional security and stability.

For his part, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif renewed his condemnation of the attacks against Qatar and other Gulf countries, while reaffirming Pakistan’s full solidarity and support to the leadership and the people of Qatar.

Both leaders underscored the importance of supporting de-escalation efforts and enhancing international coordination to ensure the security and stability of the region, particularly ensuring the maintenance of smooth flow of energy supply chains.

The two leaders also reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to further develop them, especially in the fields of security, defence, and energy, in a manner that strengthens the partnership and opens new avenues for bilateral cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, Chief of the Amiri Diwan; and a number of senior officials.

On the Pakistani side, it was attended by Senator Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Attaullah Tarar, Minister of Information; Ambassador Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and Minister of State; and other senior officials.

His Highness the Amir and the Prime Minister also held a one-on-one meeting, during which they exchanged views on current developments of mutual interest and emphasized the importance of continued coordination and consultation between the two countries, particularly in light of ongoing events and their implications for regional security and stability.

Following the meeting, His Highness the Amir hosted a luncheon in honour of the Prime Minister and the accompanying delegation.

Arrival in Doha

Earlier, PM Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Qatar on an official visit after completing his stay in Saudi Arabia. Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi received Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and members of Pakistani delegation upon their arrival at the Doha Airport on Thursday.

Upon entering Qatari airspace, fighter jets of the Qatar Air Force escorted the Pakistani Prime Minister’s aircraft to the airport. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Qatari leadership and pilots for the warm and distinguished welcome.

PM Shehbaz Sharif was accompanied by a high-level delegation.

The Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
