Supreme Court urges use of AI to pace up disposal of cases

The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday said that the country’s judiciary would have to immediately adopt artificial intelligence so that the system of justice could be modernized and the cases of people could be decided at a brisk pace, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

SC judges, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Ayesha A. Malik, in their written verdict on a petition filed by a citizen, Abdul Salam, against a private bank, said that justice delayed is not only justice denied but also amounts to stifling justice, and in the event of delay in decisions in cases, people’s trust in the judiciary was eroded and the rule of law was weakened.   

The judges further said that poor people and those belonging to the lower strata of society could not bear the expenses of prolonged judicial proceedings. 

They went on to say that delays in the provision of justice also discouraged people from investing their capital.

“Right now, there are over 2.2 million cases pending in Pakistani courts,” the judges said, adding, “Out of these, 55,941 are pending only in the Supreme Court. Hence, there is a need to adopt smart case management forthwith.” 

The court rejected Abdul Salam’s plea due to non-perusal of the case.
