Shafqat Mehmood hints at cut in winter holidays

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood said that government has been reviewing proposals about decreasing the winter vacations this year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a gathering in Islamabad, Shafqat Mehmood said that he was in favour of holidays from December last week to first week of January and education ministry gave this proposal after reviewing academic point of view. 

However, he said that the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) opined differ on this and was in favour for holidays at the end of the January. 

 “NCOC thinks the vaccination drive must continue and for that schools must continue to remain open,” he added.

Shafqat Mehmood said that suffered have already suffered a lot and children’s health was a huge responsibility. 

Earlier the minister said, “Federal and provincial secretaries met today. The agreed proposal was that winter holidays should be from Dec 25 to Jan 4. Further notifications will be from the concerned governments.”
