Federal government extends Rangers’ deployment in Dera Ghazi Khan and Attock

The federal government has approved the Punjab government’s request to extend the deployment of Rangers in two districts of the province, sources said on Tuesday.

The extension, covering Dera Ghazi Khan and Attock, will last for three more months and is aimed at supporting joint intelligence-based operations in the region.

The deployment of Rangers has been authorised under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, the sources added.

The Punjab Home Department had formally requested the federal government to continue the Rangers’ presence to maintain security and assist law enforcement agencies in countering terrorism.
