Court sentences husband to life imprisonment for wife’s murder in Lodhran
A sessions court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs500,000 in Dunyapur, Lodhran, after finding him guilty of murdering his wife and concealing her body in a gutter, 24NewsHD TV on Tuesday.
According to police, the convict namely Muhammad Asghar, strangled his wife, Ruqiya Bibi, to death in 2023 and later dumped her body in a gutter in an attempt to destroy evidence of the crime.
Following the murder, Asghar went into hiding and managed to evade arrest for several months.
During this period, he reportedly moved across different districts and continued working various jobs while remaining on the run, police added.
The case was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Dunyapur, who handed down the verdict after evaluating all available evidence and examining witness testimonies presented during the trial.
The court found the prosecution’s case to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and awarded the convict life imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 500,000.
Commenting on the verdict, District Police Officer (DPO) Lodhran, Captain (retd) Ali bin Tariq, said that effective legal follow-up by the police had resulted in strict punishments for criminals through the courts.
