Torrential rains and snowfall leave at least 37 dead in Morocco

Morocco has been hit by heavy rainfall and snowfall following seven consecutive years of prolonged drought, marking a dramatic shift in the country’s weather patterns.

 The extreme conditions have triggered widespread flooding across several regions, causing significant loss of life and damage, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, at least 37 people have been confirmed dead after torrential rains led to flash floods in vulnerable areas, according to official sources. 

Many of the affected regions were ill-prepared for such intense downpours after years of water scarcity and dry conditions.

Authorities said rescue operations were continuing in flood-hit areas to locate people reported missing. 

Emergency teams have been deployed to remote and mountainous regions, where access has been severely hampered by damaged roads and harsh weather.

In response to the severe conditions, the government has ordered the closure of schools for three days as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff. 

Officials warned that further disruptions could follow if weather conditions do not improve.

Meteorological authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, as heavy rainfall and snowfall are expected to persist in some parts of the country. 

The sudden shift from drought to extreme precipitation has raised concerns over infrastructure resilience and disaster preparedness in the region.
