Moonis takes up KBD at cabinet meeting

Federal Minister Moonis Elahi has taken up the Kala Bagh Dam with the cabinet members, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

According to sources, the minister stressed the need for constituting a cabinet committee. However, the other minister objected, saying that time is not ripe for the purpose. Elections are going to be held in Sindh and the province has reservations about the project, they added.

Addressing a symposium the other day, PM Imran said 10 dams being constructed by the government will double the country's storage capacity to irrigate land and help reduce the impact of climate change.

The Prime Minister regretted the indifference of previous governments to the construction of big water reservoirs. He pointed out that China constructed five thousand dams whilst Pakistan only built two major dams back in the 60s.

He said given an increase in our population, we have to bring more land under cultivation in areas such as DIK, Balochistan, and Thar. He said Pakistan can become a wheat and cotton exporting country by irrigating more land.

The cabinet members spoke of the ongoing campaign against the Prime Minister on social media. Ijaz Shah said: “I myself have been the head of IB. I have never seen such a campaign against an elected PM. In civilized societies, there are no personal attacks on the PM and his family. ”The cabinet stressed that there should be strict rules for social media.
