Candidate losing IHCBA polls alleges rigging

The notification for the final results of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) elections was issued on Monday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A five-member election board, headed by Adil Aziz Qazi Advocate, notified the results.

As per the notification, Syed Wajid Ali Gilani, of Ahsan Bhoon Group, received 770 votes and was elected as the IHCBA president.

His rival candidate Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf Gujjar, who received 761 votes, alleged that the election had been rigged.

Gujjar will hold a press conference today to substantiate his claims.

Earlier, Sabir Ahmad had been elected as the Association vice president unopposed.

Similarly, Qasim Nawaz Abbasi had been elected as the IHCBA general secretary unopposed and a 12-member executive body was also elected unopposed.

Farzana Faisal Khan was elected Additional Secretary with 865 votes, while her opponent Palwasha Ayaz Khan got 644.

Usman Nasir won the post of Joint Secretary with 939 votes against Wajahat Ghori’s 553.

For Finance Secretary, Rida Batool secured 860 votes, defeating Syed Salahuddin who received 625.

Out of 2,633 registered members, 1,605 lawyers cast their votes. During the counting process, a minor exchange of words occurred between supporters of the two presidential candidates, but senior lawyers present there brought the situation under control.
