NDMA holds conference on disaster preparedness for 2026

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday hosted a conference with welfare organizations to prepare for and effectively respond to potential disasters in 2026.

The conference was co-chaired by NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik and UN Regional and Welfare Coordinator Muhammad Yahya. Representatives from federal ministries, UN agencies as well as international and national NGOs and welfare organizations attended the session.

In collaboration with United Nations Pakistan, NDMA released a regular calendar outlining potential weather hazards facing Pakistan. The calendar of potential hazards and disasters is intended to guide all relevant organizations, including welfare bodies, in taking precautionary and preparedness measures.

Officials said that timely assessment of potential hazards by NDMA would help concerned organizations plan and implement preventive steps in advance. NDMA has also launched the Global Disaster Early Warnings mobile application aimed at raising early awareness of disasters at the global level.

The mobile application is expected to strengthen the early warning system and enhance cross-border access to disaster-related information, supporting ongoing welfare efforts worldwide. During the conference, participants agreed on comprehensive joint measures for coordinated disaster preparedness and response.

Attendees were also given a detailed briefing on a report prepared by NDMA regarding disasters that may affect Pakistan and the world during 2026. NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) is continuously monitoring national and global developments, assessing potential risks, and issuing regular alerts and guidelines to ensure public safety and preparedness.
