PMA condemns death of KEMU worker in electric shock incident

The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore has expressed deep sorrow and serious concern over the tragic death of a cafeteria employee at King Edward Medical University, who reportedly died after receiving an electric shock while operating a potato-cutting machine.

Prof Dr Shahid Malik, President of the PMA, described the incident as extremely unfortunate and condemnable, emphasizing that the safety and protection of employees must be the foremost responsibility of any institution and its contractors.

He called for immediate and strict legal action against the cafeteria contractor, noting that the electrocution clearly reflects negligence and the lack of proper safety and electrical safeguards.

Highlighting the preventable nature of the incident, Malik stated that regular machinery inspections, proper safety measures, and staff training could have saved the worker’s life.

He expressed alarm that even a reputed medical educational institution failed to adhere to basic safety protocols.
