Sri Lanka storm into Super Eight after humiliating Australia in T20 world Cup clash

Sri Lanka stormed into the Super Eight after humiliating Australia by 8 wickets in the T20 World Cup clash at Pallekele, Sri Lanka, on Monday. 

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to field first.

Batting first, Australia managed 181 runs for the loss of all 10 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with the innings ending in the final over.

Travis Head top-scored with 56, while Mitchell Marsh contributed 54 runs.

Sri Lanka’s bowling was led by Dushmantha Chameera, who took 2 wickets, and Dushan Hemantha, who claimed 3 wickets, restricting Australia to a chaseable total.

Chasing 182, Sri Lanka reached the target comfortably in 18 overs for the loss of just 2 wickets.

Charith Nissanka starred with an unbeaten 100 off 52 balls, including 10 fours and 5 sixes, while Kusal Mendis added a quick 52 from 38 deliveries, ensuring a commanding victory.

The win confirms Sri Lanka’s progression from Group B to the Super Eight stage.
