The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, has suspended the arrest warrants for PTI leaders Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry in the ECP contempt case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan heard the case on Monday.
Advocate Faisal Chaudhry appeared before the court on behalf of Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry.
During the hearing, the PTI lawyer said that since the Election Commission of Pakistan is not a constitutional court, therefore it could not issue arrest warrants.
After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the arrest warrants for Imran and Fawad Ch in the ECP contempt case.
The judge, however, directed that the ECP should continue its contempt proceedings against the PTI leaders.
Faisal Ch assured the court that his clients have been appearing before the ECP during its proceedings and they will continue to do so.
It is pertinent to mention here that the ECP has issued bailable arrest warrants for Imran Khan and Fawad Ch summoning them to appear before the commission on Jan 17 (tomorrow).
