NA Speaker summons constitutional committee’s meeting on July 20
National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has summoned a meeting of the Constitutional Committee on July 20 to contemplate the upcoming general elections, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Saturday.
According to sources, the parliamentary leaders and legal experts of the ruling coalition will attend the meeting to review constitutional and legal issues related to the dissolution of national and upcoming general elections.
Federal minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Election Reforms Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Federal Minister for Commerce and Investments Syed Naveed Qamar, Aslam Bhutani, Dr Qadir Mandokhel and Attorney General will attend the meeting.
The meeting will go through the proposed draft prepared by the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms.
The sources said that the key purpose of the participants is to consider the political advantages and disadvantages of prematurely dissolving the National Assembly or dissolving it after completing the term.
The meeting would also evolve a strategy to approve pending laws in the National Assembly before its term.
