Cricket schedule for 2028 Los Angeles Olympics unveiled

Cricket is set to make its long-awaited return to the Olympic Games after more than a century, with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics officially including the sport in its schedule.

The organisers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics unveiled the competition schedule for the 34th edition of the world’s biggest multi-sporting event on Monday, in which cricket returns to the Olympic fold more than a century after its lone appearance at the Games.

Only two teams – one from Great Britain and one from France – had competed in a one-off two-day match in the 1900 Paris Olympics. Cricket, however, returns to the Olympics with a vastly different look, with six teams each across the men’s and women’s game featuring a total of 180 players, and matches set to take place in the fast-paced T20 format.

Both men’s and women’s competitions will be held, each featuring six teams, making it a 12-team event overall.

A total of 180 players are expected to participate, with each team comprising a 15-member squad.

All matches will be played in the T20 format, renowned for its fast-paced, high-energy style of play.

The venue for the cricket matches will be a temporary stadium constructed at the Fairplex grounds in Pomona, a city located approximately 50 kilometers from Los Angeles.

This specially-built venue will serve as the hub for Olympic cricket action throughout the tournament.

The tournament will feature double-header match days on most occasions, with games scheduled at 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM local time.

 However, there will be no matches on July 14 and July 21, offering teams a brief rest in the packed Olympic schedule.

Cricket's inclusion in the Olympics marks a historic moment for the sport, which last appeared in the Games in 1900.
