Goods transporters enhance fares by 20pc

After an increase in the price of petroleum products by the federal government, goods transporters announced an increase in fares by 20 percent with immediate effect, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
President of the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Association, Nabeel Mehmood, said that goods transporters have to increase their fares due to the construction of new toll plazas on the National Highway by the National Highway Authority (NHA).
He said that sometimes motorway police also imposed huge challans on them.  
Now, goods transporters are charging Rs120,000 instead of Rs100,000 for the transportation of one container from Lahore to Karachi.
Rs96,000 is being charged from Lahore to Peshawar instead of Rs80,000, and Rs72,000 instead of Rs60,000 from Lahore to Rawalpindi.
The fare of transportation of a container increased from Rs 1,20,000 to Rs 144,000. Rs3,00,000 to Rs3,50,000 from Karachi to Lahore.
Transportation charges of one container increased from Rs 4,00,000 to Rs 5,00,000 from Karachi to Peshawar and Rs 5,00,000 instead of Rs 4,00,000 from Karachi to Rawalpindi.
 Nabeel Mehmood said that if the government decided to stop the construction of new plazas, then there is a chance of decreasing fares.
