FCC rejects appeal filed against appointment of masters degree holder as sweeper 

Rejecting an appeal filed against the appointment of a candidate, holding master’s degree, as a sweeper in KP, the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) on Thursday upheld the verdict given by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) in the case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A three-member bench, headed by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, heard the appeal.

Naseemullah Khan, the appellant, had argued that instead of giving the job of a sweeper to him, who was the most suitable candidate for the profession, it was given to the candidate, who held master’s degree. 

During the hearing, Justice Rizvi wondered whether a person, holding master’s degree, would now work as a sweeper. “The very fact that educated people have been forced by circumstances to do such jobs is a slap on the face of the system,” he remarked.

He, however, said it would be inappropriate to fire him especially when he had completed 10 years of his service. “The provincial government is ordered to give the complainant a job in any other department.” 

Speaking on the occasion, additional advocate general said that right now there was no vacancy for a sweeper in the province.

Surprised to hear that, Justice Rizvi asked whether KP is so neat and clean that there was no need for a sweeper there.
