Heads roll after rape victim commits suicide over Multan police’s apathy

A rape victim has committed suicide in Multan to protest police’s indifference towards her plea for registering a case, leading to suspension of a top officer and arrest of several other cops, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Shamim Mai had filed a complaint in a police station on July 10 against the alleged rape. The police did not register a case against the influential accused.

On taking notice of the incident, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Multan immediately suspended DSP New Multan and ordered arrest of relevant SHO, Sub-Inspector and Muharrar. 

The RPO also ordered registration of a case against SHO Azim Zulfiqar, Sub-Inspector Waseem and Muharrar Naeem of Badla Sunt Police Station for gross negligence in their duties.

Shamim Mai’s family demanded transparent investigation and strict punishment to the responsible, claiming that despite medical examination, woman's case was not registered.

According to police records, the victim's application had been received but FIR was not registered, after which the woman ended her life by consuming poisonous pills.

Taking strict notice of the horrific incident, RPO Multan Usman Akram Gondal has immediately suspended DSP New Multan.
