IT Minister Aminul Haque tests positive for Covid-19

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Aminul Haque became the latest high-profile politician to contract the coronavirus as he was tested positive for the virus on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Amin, who is in Islamabad, appealed to the people for praying, saying he had quarantined himself at his residence.

The MQM-P leader is a National Assembly member from the Orangi Town area of Karachi where he won the July 25, 2018 elections.

As the coronavirus is spreading at an alarming rate in Pakistan, more and more politicians and lawmakers are being tested positive of the deadly virus.

Earlier on Monday, PPP leader and Sindh Minister for Women Development Syeda Shehla Raza, also from Karachi, had tested coronavirus positive.

PPP President Shehbaz Sharif and other party leaders including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal and Marriyum Aurangzeb as well as Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid have also been infected by the coronavirus. 

The number of coronavirus cases is increasing at an alarming in Pakistan which recorded its deadliest day since the pandemic outbreak, as another 111 people died of the virus during the past 24 hours (Monday), raising the overall number to 2,839.

The latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Tuesday morning show a total of 1,081 people have so far died in Punjab, making it the worst affected region of the country in terms of death.

But the most alarming figures are coming out of Islamabad where 83 deaths have to been reported, just two short of Balochistan.

The least-populated province of Pakistan, Balochistan, has so far experienced 83 deaths. The federal capital, on the other hand, is much smaller both in terms of size and population.

But it is not limited to deaths only as the federal capital with 8,857 infected people has more reported cases as well against 8,327 in Balochistan.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths reported in Sindh is 853 followed by 707 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 13 in Azad Kashmir.

On the other hand, Punjab also tops the list when it comes to the reported coronavirus cases. It 55,878 cases. It is followed by 55,581 in Sindh, making it second-most affected province.

The details of the other regions are: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 18,472, Gilgit-Baltistan 1,143 and Azad Kashmir 663.
