Punjab approves record Rs 28b budget to boost tourism and heritage conservation

The Punjab government has approved a record Rs 28 billion allocation for the development of the tourism and archaeology sectors in the budget 2025-26, 24News HD TV channel on Monday.

The allocation included Rs 18 billion for tourism and Rs 10 billion for archaeological conservation and restoration initiatives.

According to the annual development programme (ADP), a total of 90 development schemes are being pursued under the tourism and archaeology banner — 24 of which are ongoing, while 66 are new projects being introduced in this fiscal year.

Among the key highlights of the plan is the establishment of an eco-friendly glamping pod village in Kotli Sattian, designed to offer environmentally conscious accommodation for nature-loving tourists.

Major upgradation works are also set to take place at Patriata Chair Lift and Cable Car Resort, enhancing infrastructure and tourist facilities.

In Chakwal, multiple projects are included: renovation of Dharabi Lake Resort and upgradation of the TDCP Resort in Kallar Kahar.

Similarly, Khabeki Lake Resort in Khushab is slated for restoration.

Tourism infrastructure will also be strengthened in southern and central Punjab, including the rehabilitation of a tourist resort and park at Trimmu Headworks in Jhang, and the beautification of the Jallo Resort in Lahore.

Meanwhile, Lahore’s cultural heritage will receive attention through the restoration and master planning of Lahore Museum, and the refurbishment of landmarks like the Summit Minar, Saint Andrew’s Church, and the Iqbal Museum (Javed Manzil).

Cholistan’s historic Derawar Fort and its accompanying TDCP resort will undergo conservation and upgradation, while special funding has been allocated for protection of the Taxila World Heritage Site, and restoration of the historic Rohtas Fort.
