Five-year-old dies after falling into open manhole in Lahore
A five-year-old boy died after falling into an open manhole while playing in Lahore's Sundar area, rescue and police officials said on Tuesday.
According to rescue sources, the child, identified as Hassan Aamir, accidentally fell into the open manhole while playing in a street near his home.
Upon receiving information about the incident, rescue teams rushed to the scene and launched an operation to retrieve the child. Rescuers pulled Hassan out of the manhole, but he could not be revived.
Rescue officials said the child's body was handed over to the concerned police after the recovery operation.
Police took the body into custody and initiated legal proceedings. Officials said the body would be handed over to the family after completion of the necessary formalities.
Police said further action would be taken in accordance with the law if the child's heirs submit a formal request or complaint regarding the incident.
The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about open and uncovered manholes in residential areas and the risks they pose to public safety, particularly children.
