Punjab CM, VIP security to cost taxpayers Rs345.3m in FY27
The Punjab government has proposed allocating Rs345.3 million in the fiscal year 2026-27 budget for the security of the chief minister and other VIPs, according to budget documents.
The proposed allocation covers salaries, allowances and operational expenses for 349 police personnel deployed on protocol and security duties for the chief minister and designated VIPs.
Documents show that Rs190 million has been earmarked for allowances payable to personnel assigned to security and protocol duties, while another Rs132.9 million has been allocated for salaries and related expenditures.
The security detail includes a senior police command structure headed by one superintendent of police (SP) and two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs).

The proposed deployment also includes three assistant officers, 10 inspectors, 15 sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors assigned to VIP security responsibilities.
In addition, the security force comprises 71 head constables and 173 constables responsible for protection and protocol duties.
According to the budget documents, the allocation is intended to cover expenditures associated with maintaining security arrangements for the chief minister and other protected officials throughout the next fiscal year.
The proposed spending forms part of the Punjab government's law and order and administrative expenditure estimates for 2026-27 and will be considered during the provincial budget approval process.
The budget documents indicate that hundreds of police personnel will remain dedicated to VIP security duties under the proposed allocation, with salaries and allowances accounting for the bulk of the expenditure.
