Eleven Adiala Jail officials, including two assistant superintendents, were suspended for a period of 90 days on Tuesday following 24NewsHD TV channel broke the news of the incident of beating up of a British prisoner.
The TV channel, quoting sources, reported on Tuesday that Superintendent Jail Ijaz Asghar and Deputy Superintendent Mazhar Manju, who had played a key role in this entire episode, however, escaped the punishment following intervention by an influential political figure.
It is reminded here that some hardened criminals had cut off the ears of the UK citizen couple of days ago after a cell phone was recovered from him, prompting the British High Commission in Pakistan to urge the government of Punjab to take notice of the incident which led to the suspension of 11 jail officials on the order of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar.
