The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to field imprisoned party activist Sanam Javed and former provincial minister Yasmin Rashid for the upcoming senate election scheduled to take place on April 2, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
As per details, Sanam Javed will contest the election on women’s seat whereas Dr Yasmin Rashid will contest the senate election on the technocrat seat.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan has okayed party’s candidates for the Senate elections.
PTI leader Mian Aslam Iqbal said that Hamid Khan and Zulfi Bukhari will be candidates for the general seats of Punjab, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema and Col (retd) Ijaz Minhas are nominated as covering candidates.
Meanwhile, Sanam Javed signed her nomination papers in jail. The anti-terrorism court allowed Sanam Javed to submit nomination papers.
Earlier on Thursday, the ECP issued a schedule for elections on 48 vacant seats of the Senate.
Meanwhile, today is the last date for submitting nomination papers for the Senate elections on general seats. The returning officers would be accepting the nominations till 5pm.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers would be completed by March 19, while by March 21, appeals could be filed against the acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers.
Moreover, decisions on the appeals would be issued by March 25, while polling would be held in the provincial as well as National Assemblies on April 2 from 9am to 4pm.
Elections will be held on 12 seats of the Senate each from Punjab and Sindh, and two each from Islamabad and Balochistan.
The party also finalised the names of former deputy chairman Senate Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Irfan Saleem, Azhar Mashwani and former Senator Faisal Javed for the general seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Former federal minister and ex-Senator Azam Khan Swati has been given a go-ahead to contest the election from KP on a technocrat seat.
