Punjab introduces Board Exams for Class 8 students starting next academic year

In a significant move to standardize education and improve assessment practices, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has decided to conduct board examinations for Class 8 students from the next academic year.

This marks a departure from the previous system where exams were held within individual schools. The new approach aims to ensure uniformity and transparency in the evaluation process across the province.

Under the revised system, Class 8 students will take their exams at designated examination centres instead of their own schools. The process will be supervised by external invigilators, including teachers from other schools and PSEB officials, to maintain fairness and impartiality. Additionally, answer sheets will be evaluated by educators from different institutions to ensure unbiased grading.  

This initiative is part of PSEB’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education and prepare students for the challenges of higher-level board exams. By introducing board exams at an earlier stage, students will gain valuable experience and a clearer understanding of their academic performance, setting a strong foundation for future assessments.  

In parallel, the annual matriculation exams for grades 9 and 10 are currently being conducted across Punjab’s nine Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs). Exams for 12th-grade students are scheduled to commence on April 29, followed by 11th-grade exams starting May 20.  

To safeguard the integrity of the examination process, PSEB has implemented robust security measures. These include the installation of CCTV cameras at all exam centres, enforcement of Section 144 to prevent unauthorized gatherings, and a strict ban on mobile phones and other prohibited materials within exam premises. Law enforcement agencies are also playing a key role in ensuring the secure transportation of exam papers and monitoring exam centres to prevent malpractice.
