Timothee Chalamet faces disappointing Oscars night after best actor loss
Actor Timothee Chalamet experienced a challenging evening at the 2026 Academy Awards after losing the Best Actor trophy to Michael B. Jordan, capping a night that also included jokes directed at the young star during the ceremony.
Wonka actor Chalamet, had been widely considered a strong contender for the award thanks to his performance in the sports drama Marty Supreme.
However, the prize ultimately went to Jordan for his role in Sinners.

When last year’s winner Adrien Brody announced the result, cameras showed Chalamet clapping politely and offering a restrained smile as Jordan made his way to the stage.
Michael B.Jordan appeared emotional during his acceptance speech, thanking supporters who had followed his career journey and expressing gratitude for the recognition from the industry.
The Best Actor category was one of the most competitive of the night, with nominees including Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.

Earlier in the evening, Timothee Chalamet also became the subject of playful teasing by host Conan O'Brien during the opening monologue.
The comedian referenced controversy surrounding comments the actor previously made about declining interest in traditional art forms such as opera and ballet.
The remark had sparked debate within parts of the arts community ahead of the ceremony.

Despite the awkward moment, Timothee maintained a calm demeanor as cameras briefly captured his reaction during the joke.
The actor attended the event with partner Kylie Jenner, who was seated beside him during the show.
Fashion also drew attention on the red carpet, where Timothee Chalamet arrived wearing an all white suit paired with dark sunglasses, a style choice that quickly became a talking point online.

While the Oscar slipped away this year, Timothee Chalamet’s awards season run had already included major wins earlier in the campaign, reinforcing his reputation as one of Hollywood’s most prominent young performers.
Meanwhile, Michael B.Jordan’s victory marked a significant milestone, delivering the first Academy Award of his career.
Regarding Timothée Chalamet, one viral clip claiming he fell on the Oscars red carpet is misleading.
The fall shown in the video actually dates back to the Cannes Film Festival and involved Ukrainian prankster Vitalii Sediuk, who was known for staging unexpected stunts on celebrity red carpets.
The edited clip then cuts to a separate moment of Chalamet seated with Kylie Jenner at the Oscar Awards, creating the false impression that the actor fell during the Academy Awards.
In reality, Chalamet has never taken a fall at the Oscars, although he did briefly stumble while stepping onto the stage during the BFI London Film Festival in 2023, a small moment that quickly went viral online.
