Govt reduces sales tax on petrol to zero

The government has reduced sales tax on petrol to zero. However, it hikes the sales tax on high speed diesel by 56 paisas per litre, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sources told 24NewsHD on Tuesday that the government slashed sales tax to zero on petrol. Before this, the government imposed sales tax of Rs2.06/litre on petrol.
However, the government has increased the sales tax on high speed diesel by 56 paisas/litre. With this increase, the sales tax on high speed diesel would be Rs9.58/litre.
Before this, the sales tax on high speed diesel was Rs9.02/litre.
Sources said that the government did not hike levy on petrol and retained it at Rs9.62/litre. It also retained Rs9.14/litre levy on high speed diesel.
The new price of levy and sales tax would be effective from today.
The government has decided not to raise prices of petroleum products till Nov 30.
