Fake milk production unit busted in Lahore's suburban area

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Sunday raided a residential house in Nattoki, a suburban area of Lahore, and busted a unit allegedly producing synthetic milk, 24NewsHD TV reported.

During the operation, the authority destroyed 400 litres of adulterated milk and seized a supplier’s vehicle, milk cans, 32 bags of powder, and 55 empty sacks.

According to Director General PFA Asim Javed, the group had been preparing fake milk secretly inside a residential home and supplying it to shops late at night and early in the morning.

After prolonged surveillance, the team conducted the raid and caught one suspect red-handed while mixing powder, water and substandard ghee to prepare the fake product.

The DG added that chemicals, contaminated ghee, and a thick counterfeit mixture used in the manufacturing process were also recovered from the site.

On-the-spot testing confirmed the milk to be hazardous and unfit for consumption, which led to its immediate disposal, he said.

A case has been registered against those involved in the adulteration ring.

The officials have launched further investigations to trace other members of the network.
