Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former finance minister Miftah Ismail has termed the government's claims of blaming the previous government for the rise in electricity prices as lies.

He said the government cannot hide the facts by putting its corruption and incompetence on the past governments.

“Did the PML-N ask for 60% devaluation of the rupee and increase in the value of the dollar? Don't the PTI ministers know that two of the three major power plants are owned by the federation and one by the Punjab government,” he added.

He said the rent of 3600 MW power generating Bhikki, Balloki and Haveli Bahadur Shah power plants are owned by the government and getting its rent.

“In 2018, the rent of power plants was fixed at Rs470 billion. Today, if we have to pay Rs 700billion, then those who increase the value of the dollar are responsible.”

He said the government was not going to understand that its leadership has increased electricity prices by Rs 1.5 per unit recently.

“In PML-N period, Pakistan was self-sufficient in food grains, sugar and wheat were being produced more than the country's needs. But now wheat, sugar and cotton are being imported.”
