Punjab to recommend ban on religious party involved in extremist activities

The Punjab government on Thursday decided to recommend to the federal government to ban the extremist religious outfit responsible for the killing of police personnel during its recent protest, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
At an extraordinary meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore, it was decided that the names of the outfit’s leaders would be included in the Fourth Schedule, with their properties and assets to be handed over to the Auqaf Department.
The meeting resolved that individuals involved in hate speech, incitement and law-breaking would be arrested, while those linked to police casualties and destruction of property would face charges under anti-terrorism laws.
During the meeting, key decisions were made to maintain peace and law and order across the province.
The decision was also taken that there would be a complete ban on the banners, posters and advertisements of the party.
Besides that, social media accounts of the party would also be banned and their bank accounts would be frozen.
It was agreed that the real-time data of the Afghans living illegally in the province would also be compiled, and Afghan nationals will also be brought into tax net.
The provincial government also approved an increase in the punishment laid down for possessing illegal arms to 14 years in prison and Rs2 million in fine. It was also declared a non-bailable offence.

The provincial government also decided to start an operation to identify the Afghans living in the province illegally and their businesses so that they could be deported forthwith in line with the federal government’s policy.
Apart from that, a whistleblower system would be introduced to track the Afghans.
The name of the person providing information about these foreigners would be kept secret.
The decision was taken that strict action would be taken against those found violating the Loud Speaker Act.
The meeting decided that illegal weapons would be immediately recovered, while those possessing legal weapons were asked to get them registered with their nearest Khidmat Markaz within one month.
It also announced a complete ban on the issuance of new licences for weapons.
The chief minister ordered the inspection of stocks of all sellers of arms and their dealers.
The provincial government recommended to the Center to regularize the manufacturers of arms.
It was agreed that the cases of those found involved in the killings of police personnel would be tried in anti-terrorism courts.
