IHC reserves verdict on admissibility of petition for gender change

Chief Justice (CJ) of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Athar Minallah on Thursday reserved the verdict on the admissibility of a petition filed by a girl for gender change, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Huma, of Islamabad, in the petition, told the court that she wanted to get her gender changed but was being harassed by her family members.
When the chief justice asked Huma as to who was harassing her, her counsel Usman Warraich replied that her family.
When Justice Minallah remarked that then this was a private person’s case, Advocate Warraich replied that petitioners, too, had rights. “Here, a fundamental right of a citizen is being infringed upon. Therefore, the court is requested to stop Huma’s family from harassing her and allow her to go for gender change,” he said.
