Lahore Fort to be restored with French loan

The Punjab government will take a loan of Rs3.66 billion from France for the restoration of Lahore Fort (Shahi Qila). Local government and Walled City Authority officials will soon sign an agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) Bank for this purpose, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
According to details, the loan will be acquired for the regeneration of cultural and heritage site of Lahore Fort and its buffer zones as a part of HURL (Heritage & Urban Regeneration in Lahore) project.
The Punjab government has granted approval for the agreement and estimated cost of four billion rupees for the overall restoration of the proposed project. By renovating the Shahi Fort, its buffer zone and its overall surroundings, additional income will be generated and local communities will be prepared for climate change.
The project will further enhance employment opportunities, promote tourism and will hold a great significance in promoting the tertiary industry.
