Classical singer stages singing protest at Larkana Press Club

A poverty-stricken classical singer staged a unique musical protest at the Larkana Press Club on Tuesday, highlighting the plight of struggling artists in the region, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Ustad Imdad Faqir, who holds a prestigious Double-A category status at both PTV and Radio Pakistan, arrived at the press club with his family and demonstrated his talent through live singing. 

The unusual protest was aimed at drawing attention to the lack of opportunities for classical musicians.

Speaking to reporters, Faqir lamented that despite his credentials and years of service to music, he continues to face financial hardships due to the shrinking platforms available for classical performers.

“The absence of opportunities has directly affected my livelihood. Artists like me, who have devoted their lives to preserving classical traditions, are left struggling to make ends meet,” he said.

The seasoned singer called upon the government and cultural authorities to step up efforts for the preservation and promotion of classical music. 

He stressed the need for policy measures to provide financial security and ensure the survival of the rich musical heritage.
