Sidra Ameen's ton helps Pakistan to set 226-run target for South Africa Women

South Africa Women secured a convincing eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the opening ODI of the series, successfully chasing down a target of 256 in the 49th over, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday. 

Batting first, Pakistan Women posted 255 for 4 in their allotted 50 overs.

The innings was anchored by opener Sidra Ameen, who crafted a superb 121 off 150 deliveries, becoming the first Pakistani woman to score a century against South Africa.

She received strong support from Muneeba Ali, who struck 76, and Aliya Riaz, who added 33. Despite their efforts, Pakistan’s total ultimately proved insufficient against South Africa’s strong batting lineup.

In reply, South Africa chased the target with ease, powered by magnificent centuries from Tazmin Brits and Marizanne Kapp.

Their dominant partnership took the game away from Pakistan and ensured the visitors crossed the finish line with an over to spare.

Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to make inroads, with Ramin Shamim and Sadia Iqbal claiming one wicket apiece, but the South African batters remained largely untroubled throughout the chase.

The second ODI between the two sides will be played on September 19, where Pakistan will look to bounce back and keep the three-match series alive.

Batting first, Pakistan lost opener Shawaal Zulfiqar for a duck, but Sidra Ameen held the innings together with a remarkable unbeaten 121 off 150 balls.

She was well supported by Muneeba Ali, who struck a fluent 76, while Aliya Riaz added 33 runs.

Fatima Sana managed 3, and Tannia Pervaiz contributed 5 to the tally.

Pakistan eventually closed their innings at 225 for 4 in the allotted 50 overs.

For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka bowled impressively to claim two wickets, while Tumi Sekhukhune picked up one.

Despite their efforts, the Proteas were left with a challenging chase of 226 runs.
