Seven-day Kalash Festival gets underway in Chitral
Thanks to peace in the region, the seven-day Chawmos Festival, of the people of Kalash, has got underway in Chitral, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The festival that began yesterday (December 16, 2023) will continue until December 22.
The festival will feature different events such as sacrificing of animals, making of different dishes with flour and bonfire.
A large number of people, both from within Pakistan and abroad, are heading to the area to become part of the festivities.
The Kalash Valley Festival, an annual religious celebration of the Kalash tribe, is held every December.
Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral, Imran Khan, issued new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for this year’s festival, encompassing specific guidelines for tourists and YouTubers.
The district administration has enforced Section 144 from December 13 to December 22.
Notably, in the three villages of Kalash – Rambur, Barir, and Bomburit – the exhibition of weapons and video interviews is strictly prohibited during the fair.
