Pakistan’s surplus current account slips into deficit at end of FY26
Pakistan’s current account ended fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26) with a deficit of $139 million, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) the country had recorded a current account surplus of $1.838 billion in FY25.
The current account also moved into deficit in June 2026. Pakistan posted a $649 million deficit during the month, compared with a surplus of $220 million in June 2025 and $500 million in May 2026.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s goods exports declined by 5 percent during FY26. The country exported goods worth $30.8 billion, down from $32.3 billion in the previous fiscal year.
However, services exports showed improvement. They increased by 19 percent to $10 billion in FY26, compared with $8.4 billion in FY25.
On the import side, Pakistan’s goods imports increased by 9 percent. The country imported goods worth $64 billion during FY26, up from $59 billion a year earlier.
Similarly, service imports also recorded growth. They rose by 6 percent to $11.9 billion from $11.2 billion in FY25.
Meanwhile, overseas Pakistanis sent $41.5 billion in remittances during FY26. The inflows increased by 9 percent compared with the previous year.
However, monthly remittances declined in June 2026. Pakistan received $3.475 billion in remittances during the month, down 18 percent from $4.25 billion in May 2026.
