Water level rises in Indus River after Tarbela Dam spillways opened

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that the spillways of Tarbela Dam have been opened, due to which the water flow in the lower reaches of the Indus River is expected to increase significantly, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

The NDMA has directed the public, especially residents and tourists of the areas adjacent to the Indus River, to avoid unnecessary movement and tourist activities near the river and to stay at a safe distance from the waterways during high flow.

According to NDMA, high flow is expected in lower reaches of Indus River, especially in Layyah, Bhakkar and Mianwali areas.

Increased flow of Indus River due to rapid melting of glaciers, due to rising temperatures and rains in upper reaches.
