The opposition parties in the National Assembly withdrew the no-confidence motion against NA Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Earlier today, the PTI had requested the opposition parties to withdraw the motion they had announced to bring against NA deputy speaker. NA Speaker Asad Qaiser, however, announced to form a committee on the demand of the opposition. Chaired by NA speaker, a detailed discussion held between the government and opposition members. From the government side, Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, Asad Umar, Ali Muhammad Khan and Amir Dogar participated in the meeting while opposition MPs including Rana Sannaullah, Rana Tanveer, Ayaz Sadiq, Raja Pervez Ashraf and Shazia Mari joined the meeting.
Speaking to the media after the meeting of opposition parties in the chamber of Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif following their meeting with the NA Speaker Asad Qaiser, PPP leader and former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the opposition’s objection to Deputy Speaker Suri was with respect to the hasty legislation done under his nose.
He said the speaker had assured the opposition that the government would consider revisiting the legislation done when Suri was in the chair. “And if the government takes back the legislation, the opposition too will reciprocate by withdrawing the no-trust motion to be moved against NA Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri,” he said.
