April 18, 2022 12:01 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Monday inaugurated Metro Bus Service from Peshawar Morr to New Islamabad International Airport in a ceremony held in the capital, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Shehbaz Sharif thanked China and Turkey for standing side by side and for their contribution in the Metro project.

PM Shehbaz lambasted the previous government and his rival Imran Khan for unnecessary delay in the inauguration of Metro Bus service that would have been operationalized four years ago.

Shehbaz Sharif also requested China for support for the planned revival of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project to end the woes of hundreds of thousands of commuters in the metropolis.

"I will take up this opportunity to convey my request to Beijing, NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) and President Xi Jinping to reconsider [supporting] KCR for Karachi," he said, adding that the project's completion would lead to great feelings for China among the people of Karachi and the rest of the country.

Shehbaz Sharif said that if the previous government of Sarkar (Imran Khan) would have any empathy for people, then the most vital transport project would not have been delayed for over four hours.

Counting the feats of his previous stint as Chief Minister of the most populous province Punjab, the premier said that with the help of the Chinese government, the then Punjab government completed pro-people projects including Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad metros and Orange Line Metro Train.

The Prime Minister announced that the newly inaugurated metro bus service will be free of cost in the month of Ramazan and after that it will charge tickets.

He said that the undue delay in the project added Rs4 billion losses to the project’s original cost of Rs16 billion.

PM Shehbaz thanked Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for launching this transport project for the people of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in 2017.

Shehbaz Sharif said, “Where there is a will, there is a way. The federal government has borrowed 15 buses from the Punjab Transport Authority to operationalize the bus service on a speedy basis.”

He asked his allies parties to cope up with his speed of completing the tasks and projects for the betterment of the people of the country.

PM Shehbaz asked the masses whether they want to stand with the development of the current government or lies of the past government.

He lauded efforts of CDA and NHA officials for materializing his order to functionalize the project in given deadlines of five days.

After assuming the office of Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif had directed for resumption of work on the project and its completion on priority basis.

The bus service will provide international standard travel facilities to thousands of passengers daily. Later, the Metro Bus Service will be extended to Rawat.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister also travelled in Metro Bus. The premier thanked the Chinese Charge de affairs and Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Mustafa Yurdakul.
