In a startling revelation, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Spcial Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has said that Faiz Hameed had made a deal with Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) to end the Faizabad sit-in and later it was shown to then prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Ahsan Iqbal gave a statement to the Faizabad Dharna Inquiry Commission that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had objected to the resignation of the minister and the name of former ISI chief Faiz Hameed in the agreement.

Ahsan Iqbal made this revelation before the Faizabad sit-in inquiry commission, constituted on the Supreme Court's orders following the case pertaining to the 2017 sit-in protest at Faizabad led by late TLP chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi.

Ahsan Iqbal had further said that PM Khaqan Abbasi had objected to the agreement after he saw it and also did not agree with the promise regarding then-law minister Zahid Hamid's resignation. Abbasi had also raised objection to Faiz Hamid's name in the contract with TLP. At the time, Hamid was heading ISI's counter intelligence wing and held the rank of a major general.

Khaqan Abbasi, however, was informed that the agreement had been finalised, signed and could not be withdrawn, Ahsan Iqbal apprised the commission.

Headed by a retired senior police officer Akhtar Ali Shah, the three-member Faizabad Dharna Commission comprised former Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) Tahir Alam and additional secretary of interior ministry Khushal Khan.

Panel to dig into allegations against Faiz Hameed

The federal government has set up a high-level committee to probe allegations against former ISI DG Lt-Gen (r) Faiz Hameed, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

The committee was set up following the guidelines of the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Defence.

The apex court had already heard the case of the alleged involvement of former DG ISI in a private housing society scam. Faiz Hammed was accused of misusing his authority in the case.

The inquiry committee headed by a major-general will prepare a report after reviewing the veracity of the allegations.

In case, all allegations are proven true, the inquiry committee will move its recommendations to the government.
