HEC unveils digital degree attestation system using blockchain

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced the launch of a fully digital degree attestation system, aiming to eliminate physical verification and modernize academic credential processes across Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The initiative will be developed through a strategic partnership with CMPak Limited (Zong) and its joint venture partner Wibbow Technologies and will be operationalized by June 30, 2026.

According to officials, the new system will use blockchain technology to ensure secure, transparent, and tamper-proof verification of academic degrees.

This marks a major shift from the traditional manual system, which often required applicants to visit HEC offices and submit physical documents.

Under the new digital framework, applicants will be able to complete the entire attestation process online. This includes submitting applications, tracking progress, and receiving verified credentials without any physical interaction.

The initiative is expected to significantly reduce processing time, improve efficiency, and enhance user convenience, especially for overseas Pakistanis and students applying for jobs or higher education abroad.

Officials said the move is part of broader efforts to digitize public services and align Pakistan’s education system with global technological standards.

By leveraging blockchain, the system will also help prevent fraud and ensure the authenticity of academic records.

The HEC confirmed that the agreement has already been signed, and development work is underway. The system is scheduled to become fully operational by June 30, 2026.
