KP govt bans illegal gold mining in province

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Saturday imposed a ban on illegal gold mining in the province for 60 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A declaration issued by the provincial home department said that section 144 had been imposed in Swabi, Nowshera, Kohat, Karak and the areas on the banks of the River Indus and River Kabul in order to prevent illegal gold mining.

The declaration read that action would be taken against the violators under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

A month ago, the KP home department had imposed a ban on illegal gold mining along the banks of the Kabul River, Swat River and the Indus River following a decision by the provincial cabinet.

According to an official notification, the ban was imposed for an initial period of 60 days.

Deputy commissioners of Swabi, Swat, Nowshera, Kohat and Karak districts have been directed to ensure immediate implementation of the decision.
