ECP strongly rejects Rawalpindi commissioner’s allegations

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has strongly denied the allegations levelled by Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chattha against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Talking to reporters in Rawalpindi, Liaquat Ali Chattha accepted manipulating the recently-held elections. He also claimed that chief election commissioner and chief justice were also involved in it.

In a statement issued on Saturday afternoon, an ECP spokesman strongly rejected the allegations, saying no ECP official had ever issued any kind of directive to the Rawalpindi commissioner to change the election results.

The ECP spokesman further said commissioner of any division is neither a district returning officer, nor a returning officer or a presiding officer. “He neither has any direct role in the conduct of the elections,” the spokesman added.

The ECP, however, will carry out an inquiry into this matter as soon as possible, the spokesman said.
