PSL 9 kicks off with a grand opening ceremony
The 9th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has begun with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday’s evening, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The ceremony featured performances by popular singers Ali Zafar, Aima Baig, Arif Lohar and Noori, as well as a laser show and fireworks display.
The cricket fans, who had been arriving at the stadium since 3 pm, cheered and waved flags for their favourite teams.
The first match of the tournament will be played between the defending champions Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United at 8 pm.
The Lahore Qalandars team, led by Sohail Akhtar, will try to retain their title, while the Islamabad United team, captained by Shadab Khan, will aim to win their third PSL trophy.
Both teams have a balanced squad of experienced and young players.
The PSL 9 will feature 34 matches between six teams: Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans. The final will be held on March 25 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
