Canada, US hit by snowstorm, temperatures plummet to -51°C, 14 killed

The US and Canada are battling the worst snowstorm in recent memory, with temperatures dropping to -51°C in Toronto and northern Ottawa. 

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, severe weather conditions have caused massive disruptions, with 14 people confirmed dead in Kentucky and Virginia.

The snowstorm has paralysed life in several regions, including Toronto and Ottawa, as people continue to flee to safer locations. Thousands have been evacuated due to the storm's intensity, and rescue operations are ongoing.

The extreme cold has led to widespread power outages and transportation breakdowns, while authorities work to provide shelter and relief to those affected.

According to the report, a fierce snowstorm has struck Canada, bringing life to a standstill as heavy snowfall and strong winds continue to batter major cities.

The storm has already dumped 36 centimetres of snow, severely impacting daily life. Canadian authorities warn that it could take up to two weeks to clear the accumulated snow.

Adding to the chaos, a passenger plane crashed due to the extreme weather conditions, while over 200 flights were cancelled at major airports.

Government offices and schools across Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal remain indefinitely closed as authorities struggle to cope with the aftermath. The storm’s impact has left transportation disrupted, businesses halted, and residents stranded indoors.

Officials are urging people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. The storm’s intensity has raised concerns about potential power outages and further disruptions in the coming days.
