Gynecologist sets record straight on pregnancy myths

Renowned gynaecologist Dr Sana Nazir has highlighted pregnancy-related issues including the causes of miscarriage, the impact of lifestyle choices, and common misconceptions surrounding motherhood.

Speaking on 24NewsHD TV, Dr Nazir shared expert advice on reducing miscarriage risks. She emphasized the importance of both mental and physical preparedness for pregnancy.

She said many women are hesitant to embrace motherhood due to fears that pregnancy might alter their body shape. She stressed the need for greater awareness about the realities of childbirth, encouraging women to prioritize health over appearance-related concerns.

Challenging common misconceptions, she clarified that mental stress alone does not directly cause miscarriage.

She urged women to focus on holistic well-being rather than unnecessary fears about emotional strain.

Dr Nazir warned that food poisoning is a major yet often overlooked cause of miscarriage. She emphasized the importance of hygiene and a balanced diet, advising pregnant women to avoid contaminated or undercooked food.

She also cautioned against the use of painkillers without medical supervision, as certain medications can pose serious risks to pregnancy.

Addressing another misconception, Dr Nazir stressed that the responsibility of reproductive health should not fall solely on women.

She urged men to prioritize their health, as their lifestyle choices can impact fertility and overall pregnancy outcomes.

Contrary to popular belief, Dr Nazir stated that complete bed rest is not always beneficial for pregnant women and, in some cases, can be harmful. Instead, she advised maintaining a balanced lifestyle with appropriate physical activity.

For a couple struggling to conceive after years of marriage, Dr Nazir advised consulting a specialist without unnecessary delays.

Early medical intervention can help identify and address underlying fertility issues, she stressed.

During the programme, host Fiza demonstrated an acting segment portraying a beloved pregnant daughter-in-law, adding a lighthearted touch to the discussion.

Earlier in the show, a sports analyst assessed the strengths and weaknesses of Team Pakistan ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy.

The expert criticised India's reluctance to play matches in Pakistan and expressed confidence in Pakistan’s strong lineup.

He noted that cricket legends like Tendulkar and Kohli have also faced out-of-form phases, reassuring fans that Babar Azam's performance slump is not unusual.
