Earthquake jolts many Punjab cities

A powerful earthquake jolted a number of cities in Punjab Friday morning as people were heading to their offices and schools, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The earthquake was measures 4.6 on Richter scale and mainly struck near Burewala in Vehari District. The tremor was recorded at 7:54 am at a shallow depth of 20km below the surface.
The epicentre of the earthquake was located 12 km away from Burewala in Okara.
The people rushed out of their houses reciting Holy Quran verses.
According to the Volcano Discovery website, based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicentre.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Burewala located 12 km from the epicentre, Vehari, Mian Channu, Pakpattan, Renala Khurd, Hujra Shah Muqeem, Sira-e-Mughal, Chichawatni, Arifwala, Chishtian and Kamalia which is located 60 km away.
